Pumas seeking finishing touch
Argentina wing Juan Imhoff says the focus for his team this week has been to make better use of the opportunities they create.
The Pumas enjoyed plenty of possession in their last Rugby Championship game against Australia in Mendoza, but they were not able to finish their chances and a late surge from the Wallabies saw the visitors walk away with a somewhat flattering bonus-point victory.
Imhoff admitted that the lack of continuity in selection has made things difficult as the coaching staff assess their options ahead of the World Cup, but added that if they are to have any chance of upsetting the Springboks in Durban this weekend they will have to take every chance that comes their way.
"We are trying to be more offensive but it is difficult for us because we are changing the team every week.
"One of the things we are trying to resolve is our finishing. We are very aggressive but that is something you have to do if you want to win.
"Even though you can create many situations, if you can't get the try it is a problem.
"We spend a lot of energy building up play but we don't get the result we want.
"I think if we can work a bit harder as a backline on those aspects of the gameplan we can be more aggressive in that area of the game," he said.
Imhoff has been impressed with the way the Springbok backline has performed in the Rugby Championship and singled out Jesse Kriel as a dangerman for the hosts.
"We are expecting a really physical game from South Africa, it will also be tough because they will be confident after their last two games.
"I think their new centres do not look like new players, they play like they have been playing for South Africa for 10 years.
"Kriel is fast and he can straighten, they cut the line of the All Blacks by straightening and running on the outside. I love players like that and I think they are very difficult to play against.
"That is why I say they will be confident, because they are young players who have a lot of confidence," he said.
