AUDIO: Bok coach undergoes surgery

NEWS: World Cup-winning Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has undergone shoulder surgery.

Erasmus, in a recorded post on his social media page, confirmed on Wednesday that he went under the knife.

The Bok coach said he expects to be home by the weekend.

He also congratulated the players who won and were nominated for the World Rugby awards.

Two-time World Cup-winning flank Pieter-Steph du Toit has become the first South African to win World Rugby’s Player of the Year title for a second time.

Du Toit beat off the challenge of Ireland’s Caelan Doris, as well as fellow World Cup-winning Springboks Eben Etzebeth and Cheslin Kolbe.

The Boks also provided seven members of the prestigious Dream Team, including four in the pack – Ox Nche, Malcolm Marx, Etzebeth and Du Toit.

The backs who made the cut are Kolbe, Jesse Kriel and Damian de Allende.

Flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu lost out to New Zealander Wallace Sititi in the Breakthrough Player of the Year category.

“I am so proud of them,” the coach said.

The South African Rugby Union also posted a message of ‘well wishes’ to Erasmus.

“We’d like to wish our #Springboks coach @RassieRugby a speedy recovery from his operation,” the message read.

“We’re all very proud and grateful of the great season we’ve had and would also like to thank everyone for their wonderful support in 2024>”
