VIDEO: 'The Boks will never throw you away'

SPOTLIGHT: Springbok lock Franco Mostert repaid the faith shown in him by the Springbok management by ending the Test season with a man-of-the-match performance against Wales in Cardiff.

The 33-year-old was a workhorse in all areas of the game during the 80 minutes and he also ran a great line to score his team’s opening try in a 45-12 win on Saturday.

After breaking his leg against Ireland in Durban in July, Mostert endured a lengthy period on the sidelines before making his return in South Africa’s 32-15 win over Scotland in their November tour opener.

The industrious lock produced a 40-minute effort in that outing before he was left out completely for the match against England a week later.

And the way he was managed over the last few weeks allowed him to go full tilt in that victory over Wales.

“Coach Rassie and the management team had a good plan for me after I came back from my injury,” said Mostert.

“We had a plan that I played 40 minutes against Scotland and then I was probably a bit sore after that game and they gave me a little bit of rest.

“They asked me if I could go 80 [minutes] today [Saturday] and I am thankful to do that.”

Mostert added: “When you get injured there is always another guy coming up.

“A guy like Ruan Nortje had a great season and he was unfortunate with his hammy [hamstring injury].

“With the system we have here, they [Boks] will never throw you away if you get injured.

“They will always stay in touch, and they will always find the best possible way to get you back and they always back you.

“If you keep on believing in the system, then you will always have a spot in the Springbok team.”
