500 days to go: Ticket applications now open for biggest-ever World Cup
With exactly 500 days to go until the 2027 Rugby World Cup kicks off in Australia, the global ticket application phase is officially open for all 52 matches of the expanded 24-team tournament.
The two-week application window remains open until 18.00 AEST (09.00 GMT) on Tuesday, June 2. During this period, fans can apply for tickets to any fixture – including the opening clash between Australia and debutants Hong Kong China in Perth on October 1 – via the official tournament website.
Demand is expected to be massive following a record-breaking presale that saw 250,000 tickets purchased by fans in 135 countries. To ensure affordability, organizers have set entry-level prices at $40 AUD for adults and $20 AUD for children. Because applications are not first-come, first-served, all submissions made during this fortnight will be treated equally, with a ballot system used for oversubscribed matches.
To help fans navigate the process, the ticketing platform features “high demand” indicators and an “All Out Advantage” option, which allows applicants to accept alternative price categories to increase their chances of success.
Rugby World Cup 2027 Managing Director Chris Stanley marked the 500-day milestone in Brisbane, noting that the tournament is designed to be a truly national celebration. “We’ve already seen strong demand,” Stanley said. “With matches set to take place across the country, we look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to Australia in 2027.”
Applicants will be notified of their ballot results via email starting Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
