NEWS: Wallaby playmaker Carter Gordon has made a code switch to Rugby League in a two-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.

This follows after another promising Wallaby youngster Mark Nawaqanitawase signed with the Sydney Roosters until 2025.

This will be a huge blow for new coach Joe Schmidt who would have relied on these talented youngsters to build for the Wallabies home World Cup in 2027.

The duo could still return to Australia Rugby in 2026 but this would certainly throw out Schmidt’s short and long-term planning.

This move follows after Gordon’s club, the Melbourne Rebels played their last match in a Super Rugby quarterfinal defeat to the Hurricanes.

The Rebels have been shut down due to financial issues.

“I’m excited with the direction that rugby league is taking and the positive feeling around the game,” Gordon said in a statement released by the Titans.

“At 23 I feel like I had to take this opportunity now. I’m under no illusions and understand that this will be a massive challenge.”

Gordon made his debut against South Africa in the 2023 Rugby Championship at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria. He was the only recognized flyhalf in former head coach Eddie Jones’ 2023 World Cup squad.
