Gill's move subject to medical
Gill was scheduled to arrive at the club by the end of July but ongoing negotiations with Australia's coach Michael Cheika pushed back the signing, which is still subject to a full medical.
The 24-year-old has been capped 15 times by the Wallabies and started his career at the age of 17 for the Super Rugby side, the Reds.
"It was a complicated process, it was something between the Australian coach and myself but we found common ground and luckily I was able to come over [to France] and fulfil my contract which is something I'm super excited to be a part of," Gill said.
Due to his transfer to France, Gill will be unable to feature for the Wallabies due to the ARU's rules on selecting overseas-based players.
"I'm not retiring. I just have a two-year window where I get to experience different rugby and a change of scene, and hopefully, make myself a better player on my return to Australia. I really want to give European rugby a chance and enjoy my time at Toulon," he added.
The young talent has a promising future but admitted that fellow Australian's at Toulon played no role in his decision to move.
"I spoke to them a little bit, but I didn't really need much confirmation. It's a huge opportunity for me to come and play for Toulon," he stated.
The Australian knows he will have to face tough competition for a starting place in Diego Dominguez' squad.
"Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to show the coaches and the fans what I can do as a player, as a flank, and give it as best shot as I can. I understand that it's a different style of rugby but I'm confident and I'll throw everything I can at being successful for Toulon," he said.
Gill still needs to complete some paperwork and technical formalities, including his medical test, before his contract is confirmed.
