Haylett-Petty: Nothing wrong with our fitness
RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Wallaby back Dane Haylett-Petty believes there is nothing wrong with Australia’s fitness levels after their two Bledisloe Cup losses to the All Blacks.
Australia went down 13-38 in Sydney before losing 12-40 a week later in Auckland. In both those matches, Australia were well in the game at half-time only for the All Blacks to run away with things in the second half.
“I don’t think we’re not fit enough no,” Haylett-Petty told rugby.com.au.
“We’re probably, I don’t know, it’s something we need to go back over the game plan whether we could work smarter not harder.
“I don’t necessarily think it’s a fitness thing.
“If anything, concentration, we let ourselves down and you see other teams capitalise.”
Despite the big defeats, Haylett-Petty believes there are a lot of positives for the Wallabies.
“It’s easy to throw the baby out with the bath water when you look at the scoreline, but we actually did a lot of things right, I think,” he said.
“We just killed on turnovers and there’s not a lot of teams in world rugby that will hurt you like that from your mistakes.”
