Injury not holding Simmons back
Wallaby lock Rob Simmons is confident that he will be given the all clear to face the All Blacks despite nursing a wrist injury.
Simmons was injured early on in the Test against Argentina but managed to finish the game, and he says it will not affect his ability to resume training for the Rugby Championship decider in Sydney on August 8.
The Reds lock has been in good form over the past fortnight, silencing most of his critics that questioned his selection. He has also been running the show in the Wallabies line-out making him extremely valuable to coach Michael Cheika.
The Wallabies squad for the two Bledisloe Tests will be named on Thursday, with returning lock Kane Douglas a chance of being named.
Simmons, who has been wearing a wrist guard, has been assessed by Wallabies doctor Mike Cadogan.
"He [Cadogan] said we’ll put it in this position to take the pressure off the tendons and will go and get a scan when I get home, see if there’s any damage." Simmons told FoxSports.com.au
"But with the strength of it all there will be no missing training or anything like that.
"It’s just a matter of how to strap it.
"I don’t really know [how the injury occurred]. I just went ball carrying and came out of the ruck with a really sore wrist. I strapped it up at half-time an finished the game. It’s just a little bit sore."
The towering second-rower is relishing the clash against the All Blacks in Sydney, which gives Australia a chance to win the Rugby Championship for the first time in four years.
"It’s going to be huge, it sets up the rest of the year," Simmons said. "We haven't been in this position since 2011. We’re looking forward to it."
Simmons has defied critics who have previously questioned his selection as a starting Wallaby lock.
