'It's sore for me to lose here': Bok star sends strong message
SPOTLIGHT: Jasper Wiese believes Sunday’s 38-42 defeat to the Wallabies in Perth will be a valuable lesson going into next year’s World Cup in Australia.
The world champions were outplayed for most of the game before a bizarre finish saw the Boks fight back with Australia down to 11 men after four yellow cards.
“Being 25 points down and losing the game by four points in a matter of 10 minutes, it just shows what this group is about,” said Wiese, who got his 50th cap off the bench.
“Obviously we were chasing the game a bit at the end there, but I think one or two more minutes… ‘if’ is always a dangerous thing.
“I’m proud of the boys, proud of the fight they showed, and this is such a special group. I think the last 15 minutes showed it.”
On the learnings from this game, Wiese added: “It’s valuable lessons we can take into next year if we are privileged enough to be a part of this group.
“I think we learnt some good lessons today. You always want to win while learning, but unfortunately sometimes it is not a good thing, but maybe necessary.”

The Springboks will now turn their attention to the Northern Hemisphere leg of the Nations Championship.
They will face Italy, France and Ireland in November.
“This will be sore. It’s definitely sore for me to lose here, but I think the fight is going to be bigger,” said Wiese after reflecting on the Perth clash.
“I think everybody in this group just wants to give their best for South Africa and for this jersey, so I’m convinced that we will come back stronger.”
