Player Ratings: So close

The home side gave the Wallabies plenty of problems with some exciting running rugby and a stern defence. However, they lacked that ruthlessness to put away the Wallabies.

15 Stuart Hogg:

He kept the Australian defence busy with some good runs and he racked up the running metres.

14 Sean Maitland:

He did not have many opportunities with ball in hand throughout the game, but he did go over the gain line on a few occasions.

13 Huw Jones:

It was a fantastic performance from the youngster, He scored two great tries and made more tackles than any other of his backline teammates.

12 Alex Dunbar:

He was not as influential as Huw Jones with the ball and he missed a couple of tackles as well.

11 Tim Visser:

He had a few chances with ball in hand, but he certainly made the most of it by breaking through the Australian defence on a few occasions.

10 Finn Russell:

It was a good performance from the pivot. He kept the Aussies guessing on a few occasions when he had the ball and helped organise his team's attack.

9 Greig Laidlaw:

His distribution was good and his kicking to polls was accurate as well.

Went off after five minutes

7 Hamish Watson:

He carried the ball on a number of occasions without too much success and he put in some good hits on defence as well.

6 John Barclay:

He is another who carried the ball a few times with some running metres. He could have done more.

5 Jonny Gray:

Made more tackles than any other player on the field and scored a fantastic try as well. He also put some pressure on the Wallabies at line-out time.

4 Richie Gray:

Made the second most tackles in the game behind his brother and he did some good work at line-out time as well.

3 Zander Fagerson:

His work rate on defence was great for a prop and he was solid most of the time in the scrums.

2 Ross Ford:

He did well in the line-outs, but he could have done more in open play for his team

1 Allan Dell:

The debutant did his reputation no harm and will be one to watch for the future.
