Player Ratings: The Never Say Die Welsh

Despite having plenty of opportunities, the Welsh could not find a way through the Wallabies' rock-solid defence and lost 6-15.

Andrew Howitt rates the Welsh players!

15 Gareth Anscombe

Made a couple errors but was solid when having to deal with kicks. Showed glimpses of what he can do when he regathered his up and under and made a couple meters. In general fairly average.

6/10

14 Alex Cuthbert

14 Alex Cuthbert

Did not see much ball out on the wing and when he did he did not penetrate the defence. He also got a yellow card near the end of the game.
4/10

13 George North

Got involved in play a lot more than usual but without much sting in attack. In the second half he made a lovely run along the touchline and almost scored but was just held up. North can be happy with his performance all in all.

7/10

12 Jamie Roberts

Solid defensive performance. Held up a couple runners which forced a turnover or two. Made a couple decent runs on the crash ball in the second half.

7/10

11 Liam Williams

Made a break in the first half and defended well. Made a couple runs in the game.

6/10

10 Dan Biggar

Kicked well and distributed well. Didnt make many effective runs though. Biggar also tackled Foley well and did not allow him to get through his channel.

6/10

9 Gareth Davies

Distribution was alright along with kicked well out of hand. His decision making was questionable at times though.

5/10

8 Taulupe Faletau

Solid game, high work rate and made a couple lineout steals along with taking a couple lineout when Wales threw in. Also made a couple decent runs which included a linebreak in the second half. Unfortunately he gave away a couple penalties also which affects his rating.

7/10

His usual high work rate but did not influence the game much.

5/10

6 Sam Warburton

Just tackled and hit rucks in the first half. He got penalized a couple times. Second half was a bit better.

5/10

5 Alun Wyn Jones

Barely featured in the first half. Just hit the rucks and had to defend but he did take a couple lineouts. In the second half he got more involved and made a couple decent runs.

6/10

4 Luke Charteris

Collapsed the maul resulting in a penalty, did not have the greatest of games, again another forward who had to defend for most of the game.

4/10

3 Samson Lee

Scruggled at the scrums against Scott Sio. A couple penalties against him.

3/10

2 Scott Baldwin:

Threw well at the lineout. He made a couple decent runs but most of the game he had to defend much like most of the Welsh forwards.

6/10

1 Paul James

Hard time at the scrum , did not offer much more
