Reinach not reined in

Cobus Reinach says that Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has given him licence to play what is in front of him if he makes his debut at Newlands.

The livewire scrumhalf is known more for his pace and urgency around the fringes than for his tactical kicking game, and says that if he does get on the field against the Wallabies his main focus will be on getting quick ball to the backline.

"I want to focus on getting quick ball to the backs and making the right decisions.

"We have licence to play what is in front of us, if you see the opportunity you can take it, but my first job is to get quick and clean ball to the backs," he said.

Although he may not be a Fourie du Preez clone just yet, Reinach has been working hard on his kicking game and is confident that he will be able to get the balance right if given the chance.

"From the start the coach has told me my opportunity will come and I just have to keep on working hard. Throughout the past few weeks I have learned a lot and finally my chance is coming so I am planning to grab it with both hands.

"There are times to attack and there are times to kick, we have to get the balance right," he said.

If he does come off the bench Reinach will make his debut at the same venue that his late father first played for the Springboks, which he admits will be something special if it happens.

"There is no pressure at all, my dad was, or is my hero but from my family's side there has been no pressure on me I just do what I love and that is playing rugby.

"If I get on and make my debut it definitely will be special, but until the final whistle there can't be any emotions because I am there to give my best," he said.

Reinach is by no means the finished article, but has some exciting qualities which mean that he could make a big impact against a tiring Wallabies defence.

His pace and urgency sets him apart, and if he is allowed to grow and mature with more game-time at Test level then he could relievesome of the anxiety currently surrounding the Springbok No.9 jersey.
