Wallabies suffer back row blow ahead of Bok clash

SPOTLIGHT: The Wallabies are set to be without one of their key players when they face the Springboks in the first two rounds of the Rugby Championship.

According to Australian publication The Roar, in-form flank Fraser McReight will be on the sidelines for up to six weeks with a thumb injury.

The 25-year-old picked up the injury in the first Test against Wales in July and he has now decided to undergo surgery.

It’s a huge blow for Joe Schmidt’s team as they are already without Liam Wright, who had surgery last week to fix a bicep issue.

According to Monday’s report, Brumbies duo Luke Reimer and Rory Scott, Western Force fetcher Carlo Tizzano and Waratahs No.7 Charlie Gamble are all in the frame to be called up.

The Wallabies will open their Rugby Championship campaign against the Springboks in Brisbane on August 10.

They will meet again a week later in Perth on August 17.
