Wallaby Genia signs with Rebels

The 78-Test scrumhalf had been playing for the Wallabies while based overseas with Stade Francais in Paris since 2015.

Genia previously played nine Super Rugby seasons with the Queensland Reds, including winning a title with the franchise in 2011, but chose to head south to the Rebels upon his return to Australia.

The veteran said the franchise, which survived being axed after the ARU last week decided to cull the Western Force, had a good young team which he could help develop.

"First and foremost I'm there to contribute to the desired success of the team on the field through my performance and ability as a player," Genia said.

"After that, it'll be a great chance to bring some of the things I've learned over the years to the team and help drive the team forward."

Genia, who will appear for the Wallabies against New Zealand in this weekend's Bledisloe Cup opener in Sydney, will join his Rebels teammates early next year.
