Wallaby star upset with teammates ahead of Bok clash
RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Wallaby scrumhalf Will Genia says his teammates were not working hard enough on the field during their last two Rugby Championship games against the All Blacks.
Michael Cheika’s side got their campaign off to a rocky start with a 13-38 loss to the All Blacks in Round One in Sydney. Things didn’t get any better in Round Two in Wellington with the All Blacks walking away with a 40-12 win in Auckland.
With a number of experienced players in their squad, it is a worrying return for the Wallabies ahead of their clash against the Springboks in Brisbane in Round Three.
“We had a good meeting on Sunday as far as answering some of those questions and I think the biggest thing is that we got guys who are for moments in games just not doing their jobs,” Genia told reporters in Queensland on Tuesday.
“Whether that is role clarity or knowledge or understanding the detail, we are obviously trying to figure that out.
“If we can get guys just doing their jobs every single time and not having to cover for other blokes it makes things a lot easier both with the ball and without the ball.”
While their defence was a big concern in the last two rounds, the Wallabies are also looking for a better performance on attack when they come up against the Boks.
The Wallabies only managed to score three tries in their two matches against the All Blacks.
“We have lost two games and we haven’t scored as many points as we’d like. I think we are still trying to find our groove.
“It just comes back to ensuring guys know what their roles are within the system and just doing it and not trying to cover for the blokes beside him.
“Just do your job be where you supposed to be on the field, whether that is set piece or counterattack or whatever that be and then the attack will flow from there,” Genia added.
