Barritt blow for England
Coach Stuart Lancaster confirmed that Barritt is in doubt for England's second warm-up game, against France in Paris on Saturday.
Barritt is struggling with a tight calf and may miss the second of two World Cup warm-up matches against France, after England beat Les Blues 19-14 at Twickenham last Saturday.
Lancaster, who is scheduled to name his team on Tuesday, will have some tough calls to make ahead of the trip to Paris.
The performances of midfield debutants Sam Burgess and Henry Slade against France have provided him with plenty to ponder.
Lancaster may offer Luther Burrell and Billy Twelvetrees the chance to advance their claims to a place in the World Cup squad, while also giving game time to Jonathan Joseph and Barritt, if the latter is fit.
Barritt and Joseph are the only certainties to make the World Cup squad – when it is named later this month.
Burrell, Twelvetrees, Burgess and Slade will be fighting it out for the remaining two available spots.
Lancaster will also recall a host of regulars – such as Dan Cole, George Ford and Mike Brown – for this week's match.
"It would be nice to have a few more warm-up games before we make the decision, but we don't," Lancaster told a media briefing.
"Selection will be difficult in that regard, because I'm aware that the other guys need to play as well.
"It's that position in particular that is taking up most of the time in selection."
Loosehead prop Alex Corbisiero is suffering from a sciatic nerve pain and is in doubt for the trip to Paris.
Tighthead prop Kieran Brookes suffered a bruised hand against France. However, he has returned to training.
Apart from inside centre and one wing position, Lancaster is set to name his strongest starting XV against France, before the visit of Ireland to Twickenham on September 5 completes England's trio of warm-up fixtures.
