England A v All Blacks XV - Teams and Prediction

PREVIEW: England A will welcome a reinforced All Blacks XV side to the Recreation Ground for an exciting fixture on Saturday afternoon.

New Zealand has been bolstered by Sevu Reece and Luke Jacobson, who have joined the All Blacks XV for this fixture.

All Blacks XV Head Coach Jamie Joseph has made eight personnel changes to the team that started in the 33-19 win over the Barbarians last weekend in Brentford.

Reece, a 36-Test All Black, will start on the left wing with Jacobson providing impact from a reshuffled bench.

With 20 Test tries, Reece forms a rejigged back three with fellow wing Caleb Tangitau and fullback Chay Fihaki.

The backline, which again is guided by Josh Jacomb at flyhalf, includes four capped All Blacks in total, with Kyle Preston taking over at No.9 and David Havili and Braydon Ennor teaming up in the midfield.

In the pack, Brodie McAlister starts at hooker, TK Howden comes into the side at lock with Jamie Hannah, and Christian Lio-Willie starts at No.8, pushing Devan Flanders to the blindside flank.

Jacobson, scrumhalf Folau Fakatava and midfielder Dallas McLeod also come into the matchday 23 in impact roles.

All Blacks XV Head Coach Jamie Joseph said:

“It’s great to have Sevu and Luke join the squad and add their experience to the group for what we expect will be a strong and motivated England A squad.

“The challenge this week is to build on the performance against the Barbarians, and once again it’s a great opportunity for the players to perform and execute on the international stage.”

For England A, Ethan Roots will lead the side this weekend following Joe Batley and his partner welcoming their second child.

Batley will link up with the team on Thursday in preparation for the fixture.

Bath centre Max Ojomoh has been awarded the vice-captaincy role whilst representing his country at his club’s home stadium.

Tom Lockett will start with Batley in the second row.

There is potential for first England A involvements for replacements Fitz Harding, Kepu Tuipulotu, Vilikesa Sela, Rekeiti Ma’asi-White and Adam Radwan.

The selection of the wider squad and matchday 23 is a cooperative approach made in consultation with head coach Mark Mapletoft and determined by senior head coach Steve Borthwick, and RFU Executive Director of Performance Rugby, Conor O’Shea.

“Everyone’s buy-in this week has been second-to-none, squad and staff have been adaptable and prepared excellently in our unique turnaround.

“Building togetherness has been key, and I believe we have achieved that,” said Mapletoft.

“We aim to create an environment where players can learn to win and increase that window for development, and this All Blacks XV side will test our players in a high-pressure international arena.

“This fixture is a challenge for our team, but in equal measure, a prime opportunity for everyone to push on for senior honours. We want them to step up and take their shot this Saturday.”
