Player ratings: One-man show
Two tries in the final 10 minutes saw tournament hosts England secure a bonus-point win.
Apart from some moments of brilliant by wing Nemani Nadolo and determined defence, there wasn't much in the Fijian performance that would suggest they can become the global showpiece's giant killers.
Jan de Koning rates the Fijian players!
15 Metuisela Talebula:
Did not live up to his reputation. There were no major mistakes, but he was just too quiet for long periods.
6/10
14 Waisea Nayacalevu:
Looked good with ball in hand and made all his tackles. Only conceded one penalty, but also disappeared at times.
6/10
13 Vereniki Goneva:
Made some very poor decisions with ball in hand, although his defence was mostly of an acceptable standard.
5/10
12 Gabiriele Lovobalavu:
Reduced to a defensive role and turned over far too much ball.
4/10
11 Nemani Nadolo:
Was his team's main ball carrier and made plenty of metres. There was also a sublime leap for Fiji's first try. He also took some kicks at goal, although that was a mixed bag. Fiji relied too much on him for the spark they missed.
8/10
10 Ben Volavola:
Produced a sublime kick for Nadolo's try and directed play very well. However, he also concede a few turnovers and missed more tackles than he made.
5/10
9 Nikola Matawalu:
Got himself yellow-carded for a professional foul, just minutes after the referee issued a team warning. He also conceded a penalty try in the same incident. He then bounced back with a sublime break, only to lose the ball over the line.
5/10
8 Sakiusa Masi Matadigo:
Defended very well and did what was asked of him. Did a fine job behind a retreating set of tight forwards.
6/10
7 Akapusi Qera (captain):
Was his team's best forward – tackling his hard out and making numerous carries, with limited success.
7/10
6 Dominiko Waqaniburotu:
Defended very well, but his discipline let him down and he was lucky not to have been yellow-carded for a first-half tip-tackle.
5/10
5 Leone Nakarawa:
Carried the ball often, with some success. Made plenty of tackles, but also missed far too many. Was a valuable line-out source.
6/10
4 Apisalome Ratuniyarawa:
Was also lucky not to have been carded for an illegal clear-out with a shoulder. Not a surprise he was replaced at half-time.
4/10
3 Manasa Saulo:
Powerful scrumming at times, but not consistent enough. Made plenty of tackles.
6/10
2 Sunia Koto:
Won a crucial turnover penalty early in the first half and did the basics well.
6/10
1 Campese Ma'afu:
Struggled in the scrums at times, although his defence proved valuable.
6/10
