Ewels was handed a red card for a dangerous clear-out on Japan skipper Michael Leitch, just four minutes after coming on as a replacement.

The Bath lock appeared in front of an independent Disciplinary Committee on June 23 for an offence contrary to Law 9.20(a) (dangerous charging in a ruck).

Consequently, the second row has been suspended for two matches, meaning he will the two Tests against the All Blacks on July 6 and July 13.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) confirmed that Nick Isiekwe has been called into the England squad to replace Ewels.

The Saracens forward will arrive in Auckland on Tuesday, June 25.
