Scotland's Taylor out of Calcutta Cup clash

The 27-year-old centre has not featured for his country since last year's tour of Japan after suffering an ankle injury, but had hoped to force his way back in for Saturday's Six Nations match at Twickenham.

However, a hamstring injury sustained while playing for English and European champions Saracens in their 35-27 win over Newcastle in the Premiership on Sunday has put paid to his chances of featuring for Scotland, who will be bidding for a first win at Twickenham since 1983.

"Scotland and Saracens centre Duncan Taylor will remain in the care of his club's medical team for further assessment after he sustained a hamstring injury against Newcastle Falcons in the English Premiership on Sunday," said a statement issued by the Scottish Rugby Union.

Scotland had previously seen captain Greig Laidlaw, together with back-row forwards Josh Strauss and John Hardie, forced out of this season's Championship.

Yet despite those setbacks, Scotland are on course for one of their best Six Nations campaigns of recent years having already beaten Ireland and Wales to lie third in the standings with two rounds remaining.
