Season over for England flanker after surgery setback
INJURY UPDATE: England and Sale Sharks flanker Ben Curry has confirmed his season is over after undergoing a second operation during the current campaign.
The 27-year-old had already missed the Quilter Nations Series earlier in the season following hamstring surgery. He returned to action in December during the Investec Champions Cup but was soon sidelined again.
Curry did not travel with England to their pre-Championship training camp in Girona and was subsequently replaced in the squad by Jack Kenningham. Updates on his condition had been limited until Friday, when the flanker revealed on social media that his campaign had come to an early end.
“Gutted to say that my season is over,” Curry wrote on Instagram. “Been a tough few months already, however feeling really positive about the next steps and can’t wait to get cracking with the rehab.”

The latest setback follows another hamstring operation earlier in his career in 2023, making this the third procedure on the injury.
It marks a frustrating campaign for Curry, who had cemented himself as a regular starter for England under Steve Borthwick during the 2024/25 season, featuring prominently in the Six Nations and the series victory over Argentina.
Although England have depth in the back row, the balance of the unit has been an area Borthwick has continued to adjust throughout the Championship, particularly after the side struggled in defeats to Scotland and Ireland.
No timeline has been given for Curry’s return, but he will miss the remainder of Sale’s Gallagher Premiership and Investec Champions Cup season. The Sharks currently sit seventh in the league with eight matches remaining and face a significant challenge to reach the play-offs.
His absence could also extend into the international window, with England likely to be without the flanker for their July Nations Championship fixtures against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina.
