England No.8 Ben Morgan is in doubt for the Six Nations after going off on a stretcher in Gloucester's Premiership win on Friday.
Gloucester Director of Rugby David Humphreys conceded it is 'never a good sign' when a player needs a stretcher to leave the field, although he urged patience as Morgan has yet to receive any scans on his lower left leg.
Morgan has 20 caps and was named Man of the Series after England's four Tests at the end of last year, scoring three tries, and, if fit, is widely expected to play a crucial role in Stuart Lancaster's squad for the Six Nations, which begins next month.
"I don't believe it's a fracture but I don't know because we haven't had the opportunity to X-ray or scan him fully so it's impossible to say at this stage," Humphreys said.
"All I know at this stage is it's a lower leg injury but I'm not sure of the extent.
"That's something we will not know until we have had the opportunity for a medical review tomorrow [Saturday] and to see a specialist as early as we can next week.
"I will not say [about the Six Nations] because I genuinely don't know at this stage. But when you see someone coming off on a stretcher it's never a good sign.
"We will know the full extent of the injury early next week."
Morgan was hurt in the second half against Saracens as he attempted to drive forward from a scrum and was stuck underneath a pile of players.
The referee stopped play almost immediately so Morgan could receive treatment, with the 25-year-old given oxygen as Gloucester's medical staff assessed his leg.
Gloucester went on to win 24-23 thanks to James Hook's long-range penalty with the final kick of the contest.
