Six Nations gets a new boss

NEWS: The Six Nations Council has a new President.

Former French-Moroccan international No.8 Abdelatif Benazzi has been elected the new Six Nations Council President.

He will assume his new role with immediate effect.

The Six Nations council is comprised of members from all six unions and federations and representatives from Six Nations Rugby.

Benazzi receiving unanimous support and votes from his fellow council members, to confirm him as the new council President, for a three-year term.

Alongside his position as Six Nations Council President, Benazzi is also the International Vice President for the French Rugby Federation, and Chair of the World Rugby Men’s High Performance Rugby Committee.

These posts follow a decorated playing career.

He played on the international stage for France, and with club sides Agen (France) and Saracens (England).

He earned 78 caps for France between 1990-2001.

Benazzi played in 10 Six Nations Championships, winning two Grand Slams during the Five Nations era, as well as reaching a World Cup Final with France in 1999.

“It is an incredible honour to be elected Six Nations council President, and a responsibility I fully respect and look forward to fulfilling with the support of my
fellow council members,” Benazzi said.

“Rugby has defined my life and career, and I am committed to strengthening the unity between our unions and working collectively to ensure the continued growth and development of the sport and the Six Nations Championships.”

Benazzi replaces Jonathan Jeffrey (Scotland), who held the position from 2019-2024.
