Vunipola stars as England cruise

England got their South American tour off to a winning start on Sunday with a 41-21 victory over a Consur XV made up of players from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

The hosts were credited a penalty try in the opening quarter as England saw Jonny May yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on.

But Ben Foden crossed for England, missing a raft of front-line players on duty with the British and Irish Lions in Australia, before No.8 Billy Vunipola bagged a six-minute hat-trick.

England captain Tom Wood scored a fifth try just before half-time, flyhalf Stephen Myler landing three conversions.

Foden and prop Paul Doran-Jones scored tries for the visitors in the second period, the battling Consur XV bagging two of their own through Tomas Cubelli and Diego Magno, both converted by Benjamin Madero.

England now move on to Argentina, where they play the Pumas next Saturday.
