Bok Women to battle Fiji for Ubuntu-Bula Trophy
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: The Springbok Women will make history when they face Fiji on their first-ever rugby tour to the Pacific island nation, with the two sides set to play for the inaugural Ubuntu-Bula Trophy.
The Springbok Women arrived in Suva on Monday and have been exploring the country ahead of Saturday’s Test at HFC Bank Stadium.
The Fiji Museum provided a fitting backdrop for the unveiling of the Ubuntu–Bula Trophy, marking a significant moment in the sporting history of both nations as the teams prepare to contest the silverware in a two-Test series.
The trophy takes its name from two powerful expressions that reflect the shared values of South Africa and Fiji.
Ubuntu, a philosophy deeply rooted in South African culture, means “I am because we are.” It embodies respect, unity, teamwork, humility and the belief that people are strengthened through their relationships with one another.
Bula, Fiji’s iconic greeting meaning “life”, represents warmth, hospitality, good health and the vibrant spirit of the Fijian people.
Following the Fiji tour, the Springbok Women will return home to take on the Black Ferns at FNB Stadium on September 5.
