France lose a star ahead of Fiji Test

INJURY UPDATE: France fullback Maxime Medard will miss this weekend’s Test match against Fiji because of a concussion he picked up at the weekend, the French Rugby Federation said on Monday.

“Following additional tests carried out after suffering concussion during the game between France and Argentina on Saturday night, Maxime Medard is unavailable to face Fiji on Saturday at the Stade de France,” the federation said in a statement.

Medard left the field during the opening minutes of the 28-13 victory over Argentina last Saturday in what was their first win in nine months.

Benjamin Fall replaced Medard at fullback and is likely to be in the named on Thursday in the starting line-up for the Fiji match.

No.8 Louis Picamoles said the win over the Pumas was only the beginning for Jacques Brunel’s side but they had to follow it up.

“Winning on Saturday was just the first step which we can only justify with a total performance and victory against Fiji on Saturday before starting well in the Six Nations,” the Montpellier backrower said.
