French Rugby to reveal Laporte's replacement in June
NEWS: The new president of the French Rugby Federation, who will pick up the reins after the departure of the disgraced Bernard Laporte, will be known on June 14, the FFR announced Friday.
A first ballot will be held in May to “replace the vacant positions on the board” before the election of the president of the FFR in mid-June.
The deadline for candidates to replace Alexandre Martinez, appointed in February as interim president to replace Laporte, is set for May 31 for an opening of votes on June 12.
The election comes in the run-up to France hosting the 2023 World Cup which starts in September.
Laporte resigned after appealing his two-year suspended prison sentence for showing favouritism in awarding a shirt sponsorship contract for the national side to Mohed Altrad, the billionaire owner of Top 14 champions Montpellier.
Laporte, who had been at the helm of French rugby since 2016, was banned in December from holding any rugby post for two years, but this is suspended pending an appeal.
