Lions lock swaps Jozi for France
TRANSFER NEWS: Lions second-row Ruben Schoeman is set to bid farewell to Johannesburg after securing a move to France.
The lock has signed a deal with French club Racing Narbonnais that will keep him at the club until 2028.
Known for his physicality and work rate, the 30-year-old is expected to add valuable power and experience to the Orange and Black pack ahead of the new Pro D2 campaign.
Schoeman made his Currie Cup debut for the Golden Lions in July 2019, coming on as a replacement lock in their opening match of the 2019 season against the Pumas.
Since then, he has established himself as a key member of the Lions set-up.
He has been part of the Lions’ United Rugby Championship squad and played a vital role in the team’s historic season, which saw them secure a play-off berth for the first time.
The Lions also claimed the URC South African Shield during the campaign.
Schoeman will link up with fellow South African and former Lions star Aphiwe Dyantyi at the Pro D2 champions as he embarks on the next chapter of his career in France.
