Pivotal blow for Perpignan

Perpignan's French international flyhalf Camille Lopez has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The playmaker has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, his club announced on Saturday.

Lopez, who has played three times for France this season, underwent a MRI scan on Thursday which confirmed the seriousness of the injury.

Perpignan doctor Christian Fourniols confirmed that he will be on the sidelines for six months, ruling him out until the start of next season.

The Catalan club's president, Francois Riviere, said that there were no plans at the moment to sign a replacement, but admitted that he will review the situation again at the end of December.

Italian international Tommy Allan and James Hook of Wales are both capable of filling in for Lopez.

The 24-year-old Lopez, who made his breakthrough into the France side during the tour of New Zealand earlier this year, suffered the injury during Perpignan's 36-8 European Cup defeat against Munster last weekend.
