Racing line up Phillips

Wales scrumhalf Mike Phillips is set to sign for Racing Metro in France's Top 14 league, club president Jacky Lorenzetti has said on Monday.

"We are on the right tracks and we should put pen to paper shortly," Lorenzetti told a press conference called to discuss the construction of a new stadium for the Paris club in the suburb of Nanterre.

Phillips was dismissed by another top flight French side, Bayonne, in late October for allegedly being drunk when he turned up for a video analysis session.

He denies the charges and has launched legal proceedings against the Basque side.

Phillips, who played for Wales in their just-concluded November Test matches against southern hemisphere sides, should be available to play for Racing "before the end of the season" according to Lorenzetti.

He will, however, face tough opposition for a place in the starting line-up with France international Maxime Machenaud currently in the No.9 shirt, backed by Laurent Magnaval, Sebastien Descons and South African Ruan Snyman.
