Sowerby calls it a day

Shaun Sowerby, who played a Test as a Springbok in 2002 and  turned 35 last July, is set to retire from playing the game, but hopes to become a coach.

Sowerby captained the Sharks in 2003 and has been in France since 2004 when he joined Stade Français. In 2007 he moved to Toulouse and then in 2012 to Grenoble but he has not played since 20 April 2013 when he was injured playing against Toulon.

His retirement will come into effect in June 2014 when his contract with Grenoble expires. He is unlikely to play again before then as he cannot even jog without pain at present.

He hopes to coach, probably in France where he now knows the system and the players well. He has been wanting to coaqch for some years and has been preparing to coach for several months and he is on the look-out for coaching opportunities
