Squire and Co have a point to prove in Lyon

Squire missed the All Blacks' opening two tour matches against the Barbarians and France after he was struck down with a virus.

Squire has since recovered and was named in New Zealand's starting XV for their mid-week clash against France XV and the 26-year-old will be wanting to out in a big performance to fight for a spot in Steve Hansen's Test side for the upcoming clash against Scotland.

"I've only had a couple of trainings since coming back so I'll take that as an opportunity to put a performance out there," Squire said in an interview on allblacks.com.

"We've had a pretty good week. We've actually probably had a longer week's preparation than normal so it's exciting for those young fellows who are going to get their second or third opportunity to put on that black jersey."

Ardie Savea will also be starting in the back row for Tuesday's clash and the Hurricanes star is just happy to do whatever can for the squad.

"Whatever that is, if it's holding the shields helping the boys prepare for the Test week if I'm not in the squad or I'm on the bench or whatever it is I'm just trying to nail that, so the boys have the greatest opportunity to perform on the field and for myself to prepare well for the game," he said.

Savea also missed out on selection for the Test against France and he admitted it has just made him hungrier to impress the All Blacks coaches.

"When you have something to improve on you want to go out there and put your best foot forward and for me it has just made me hungrier and work harder to try and get back in the squad," he said.
