Top 14: Brive suffer away heartache
Gaetan Germain's missed conversion with a minute left cost Brive their first French Top 14 away win since February 2012 as Grenoble limped over the line 26-25.
Brive only had three players from the side that last won an away match and they came agonisingly close to ending that sorry run after replacement scrumhalf Jean-Baptiste Pejoine dived over in the corner late on.
But from right out on the touchline, fullback Germain couldn't curl his effort between the uprights.
Grenoble will be relieved after appearing to be winning comfortably at 23-10 midway through the second period.
Fijian wing Benito Masilevu scored the first try for the visitors on 18 minutes but compatriot Alipate Ratini went over for the hosts just after the hour mark.
New Zealander No.8 Rory Grice's try helped Grenoble, for whom flyhalf Jonathan Wisniewski finished with a personal haul of 14 points, to a 20-10 half-time lead.
But Fijian flank Dominiko Waqaniburotu's try following a break from Masilevu closed the deficit.
And when Pejoine went over with three minutes left, Brive's dream of ending their winless away run looked within touching distance.
Yet, having notched his first two conversions and two penalties, Germain couldn't manage this one and the 1997 European champions came up short.
Ahead of the rest of the weekend games, Grenoble moved up to third in the table with Brive, who earned a losing bonus point, just above the relegation places.
