Toulon duo arrested over brawl

Toulon flank Steffon Armitage and prop Xavier Chiocci have been arrested and questioned by police over a fight last month.

Radio station France Bleu Toulon reported that the players were summoned to the police station on Wednesday, after attacking a 30-year-old man during an alcohol-fuelled party that followed a win over the Leicester Tigers in the European Cup on December 13.

According to France Bleu, Armitage, 29, and the 24-year-old Chiocci have told investigators they can remember nothing of what happened.

According to witnesses, a fight broke out and the two players felled the restaurant goer before striking him, injuring his eye.

When contacted by AFP, outspoken Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal said that he "had nothing to say for the moment" and was awaiting "more information".

Both Armitage and Chiocci have been named in Toulon's 25-strong squad for Friday's Top 14 home match against Bayonne.
