According to news outlet RTL and sports daily L’Equipe, the 28-year-old, who had been drinking alcohol, fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle and allegedly hit several parked vehicles.

Tonga-born Latu was taken to hospital for a check-up and later charged by police with drunk driving.

“Prior to any possible sanction and in order to shed light on the circumstances in which the accident took place, the player will meet with the club management,” said Stade Francais.

The former Waratahs hooker, who arrived in France after the World Cup in 2019, has scored five tries in 15 Top 14 games this season.

He has played in 15 Tests for Australia.
