The one-test All Blacks has played 29 games for the Chiefs since joining the club in 2022. He also ran out for the Highlanders 43 times and represented the Māori All Blacks, All Blacks XV, and Samoa in Under-20s.

The 28-year-old Ioane arrives with vast experience at the highest level of southern hemisphere rugby with 72 Super Rugby caps and scoring over 300 points.

He received his All Blacks call-up while with the Highlander for the 2019 Rugby Championship, making his international debut against Tonga that year..

The versatile back has also featured at fullback regularly and occasionally at centre, providing Connacht Head Coach Pete Wilkins with further depth in key positions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Josh to Connacht next season. We were open about the need for additional depth at 10 following JJ’s injury, and in Josh, we have secured a player with a wealth of experience and an excellent skill set, that will both excite our supporters and complement our existing backs.

“We look forward to him joining the squad and helping us push for success next season,” Wilkins said.
