Flanker Dorothy Wall will miss this year’s World Cup because of an Achilles tendon injury, the Irish Rugby Football Union said on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who picked up the injury during Saturday’s 19-26 defeat to Scotland in the Women’s Six Nations, was set to undergo surgery on Wednesday in Dublin.

According to the IRFU, she will be out of action for a “number of months”.

Scott Bemand’s side were already without loose forward Erin King for the tournament after she suffered a serious knee problem earlier this month.

Ireland face Japan, Spain and New Zealand in Pool C of the World Cup, which is being staged in England between August 22 and September 27.
