Louw not taking Bok inclusion for granted

Louw, who joined the squad on Sunday, is just one of three overseas-based players included in the 31-man squad. 

Prop Steven Kitshoff and No.8 Duane Vermeulen also joined the Boks on Sunday.

Coetzee made it known last week that he will only be selecting overseas-based players if the need arises and Louw feels that he was fortunate to be one them.  

"Playing for the Springboks is the ultimate for a South Africa rugby player," Louw told reporters at the team's hotel in Cape Town on Sunday.

"I am very grateful and fortunate to be back here once again. 

"I am currently playing overseas [with Bath] and I definitely believe it has brought the best out of me as a player.

"I think I have grown substantially, not just on the field, but off the off field as well and I will bring those skills and attributes back into the side.

"I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to select domestic-based players as well.

"It is out of my hands at the moment. If I do get the chance to play for the Boks, I will give it everything I have."

Louw revealed that Coetzee had asked him if he wanted to represent the Boks again. 

"The coach spoke to me a few weeks ago, asking what my future was like going forward and if I still see myself wanting to be available for Springbok selection. 

"It was a very easy answer. I am excited to be here and you never take this for granted. It is very special to be included in this squad," Louw added.

Coetzee believes Louw still has a lot to offer the team going forward. 

"I think it's important that we do cover all our basis," said Coetzee.

"Francois, over the years, has really grown into a versatile loose forward. He carries [the ball] well and he also makes good decisions on the ground.

"I am very pleased to have his expertise and skill set in the team. We can really select an exciting [back row] combination for Ireland."
