The reigning world champions went down 8-13 to the No.1 ranked side in a tense and absorbing Pool B encounter at Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

The win strengthened Ireland’s position at the top of the Pool where they now have 14 points.

After picking up a losing bonus point, the Boks have 10 points ahead of their final pool fixture against Tonga next weekend.

On Sunday. Erasmus shared his thoughts on the game and he had a few messages.

“Congrats to the Irish and sorry [South Africa]! We will just work harder and make you proud!” said Erasmus.

“Also nice to be involved in a game so intense and physical without the referee getting too much involved!
