Schmidt: Ireland still in the race
Ireland coach Joe Schmidt insists confidence will remain high in the camp this week, despite seeing their hopes of a Grand Slam in this year's Six Nations having disappeared with defeat to Wales.
Previously unbeaten Ireland slumped to a 16-23 defeat at the Millennium Stadium last Saturday – ultimately failing to recover from falling 0-12 behind early on.
It was their first defeat in 11 matches, while Wales' victory, as well as a triumph for England over Scotland, means the three teams now have six points each in this year's tournament.
Ireland haven't won back-to-back titles since 1983, when they shared the trophy with France – having won it outright the year before.
And while points difference is likely to play a part this weekend when the 2015 champion is decided, Schmidt is adamant the main focus for Ireland must be on recording a positive result first and foremost.
"We are still in the Championship and we still have a fantastic opportunity to do something that hasn't been done for a long time if we can create enough opportunities in Murrayfield," he said.
"If you go looking for differentials without first of all making sure you have targeted the result, you are going to make it a pretty tough day.
"What we don't want to do is suddenly lose our confidence. We didn't beat some really good teams because we were no good at what we're doing."
