Ringrose has been handed a three-match suspension following a charge with an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13: A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.

The centre’s ban includes Leinster’s United Rugby Championship clash against Cardiff this weekend.

Ringrose can make his return for Ireland’s final Six Nations clash against Italy should he opt to complete World Rugby’s coaching intervention programme.

After initially being shown a yellow card, it was subsequently upgraded to a red following the bunker review after it was deemed that he made direct head contact with Wales’ Ben Thomas.

Ringrose appeared before an independent disciplinary committee on Thursday morning, which determined that the mid-range entry point of a six-week/match suspension was appropriate for Ringrose’s indiscretion.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty, and his previous disciplinary record had also been taken into account, which saw the punishment being slashed in half.
