Italy suffers Lynagh setback
NEWS: Louis Lynagh is set to miss the upcoming Six Nations for Italy after his club Treviso announced that the wing had undergone surgery for a knee ligament injury.
In a statement, Treviso said that Lynagh, the son of Australian great Michael Lynagh, hurt the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee during last month’s win over fellow Italians Parma in the United Rugby Championship.
“The surgery was a complete success and the player will now begin his rehabilitation process,” said Benetton.
Treviso did not say for how long Lynagh would be out of action, but Italian media reported an absence of at least three months which would mean missing the Six Nations.
Lynagh was born in Treviso where his father played and his mother is Italian, but represented England at youth level after moving there with his family as a young boy.
The 24-year-old opted to play for Italy as a senior player last year and has since played five times for the Azzurri under head coach Gonzalo Quesada.
Italy begin their Six Nations campaign against Scotland at Murrayfield on February 1.
