Laidlaw rues Scottish indiscipline
Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw admitted his side's ill-discipline had proved their undoing as Italy secured a last-gasp Six Nations victory at Murrayfield.
The Italians claimed only their second ever away victory in the Championship with a late penalty try in the Scottish capital.
Laidlaw's four penalties allied to Mark Bennett's interception try looked to have secured Scotland a narrow win with the clock ticking down.
But Peter Horne missed touch with a key pressure-relieving penalty and Italy stormed back to secure a famous victory and leave Scotland still searching for their first win in 2015, much to Laidlaw's frustration.
"We are obviously very disappointed with the performance, we let Italy into the game and it has cost us," he said.
"It was a good start to the game. We talked about discipline all week and the last thing I said before we took to the pitch was not to give penalties.
"Immediately we gave away a penalty and let them chip away at our lead – we let them claw back into the game and then they got a penalty try at the end of the game."
Despite Laidlaw's accuracy from the tee, Italy crossed for two tries in the first half through Josh Furno and Giovanbattista Venditti.
And the late penalty try sparked jubilant celebrations on the Murrayfield pitch, leaving Laidlaw to rue his side's inconsistency.
"There were a lot of ups and downs – there was some good stuff again but way too much bad in between," he added.
"We let them off the hook and defensively we were not on it today. In that aspect it was disappointing. We did not get going forward and gave them easy yards."
