Russell to appeal ban

Scotland's Finn Russell will have his appeal against a two-week ban heard in London on Wednesday.

Russell was hit with the suspension by the Six Nations disciplinary committee following a challenge on Wales' Dan Biggar that was deemed "reckless".

The 22-year-old was yellow carded for the tackle and Scotland conceded 10 points while he was off the field, eventually losing 26-23 on February 15.

Should the ban stand, he will miss Saturday's home match against Italy.

His hearing will take place before an independent Six Nations appeal committee.

A statement from the Six Nations read: "Finn Russell has appealed against the decision of the independent Six Nations disciplinary committee to find that he had committed an act of foul play, namely a dangerous tackle of an opponent in the air in the Six Nations match between Scotland and Wales on February 15."

After imposing the ban, the Six Nations disciplinary committee described the Glasgow Warriors player's actions as "reckless rather than deliberate".
