Wallaby veteran heads for Japan

George Gregan is about to leave Japan but another Wallaby veteran is heading there. George Smith, apparently, is heading for the Sanyo Wild Knights.

Smith has been playing for Toulon who, aware of his departure, are looking for another flank. Another Wallaby, Rocky Elsom is mentioned as a possible replacement.

According to La Provence, Smith has accepted an offer from former Japanese champions Sanyo Wild Knights on a three-year contract said by La Provence to be €800,000 (roughly GB£681,000, US$1,05million) per annum.

Smith, who is 30, played 110 Tests for the Wallabies after making his debut in 2000.
