Referees for Europe's matches

It is the 21st season of European Rugby, previously the Heineken Cup and the Amlin Challenge Cup. Now they are labelled the Champions Cup and the Challenge Cup, each with 20 teams divided into five pools.

The matches start on Friday, 13 November 2015 when Leicester Tigers play Stade Français at Welford Road with Johnny Lacey to referee.

History will be made this year with the inclusion in the Challenge Cup of the Russian club Enisei-STM who make their debut against Connacht take on Connacht at their ground Avangard in Krasnoyarsk on Saturday, 14 November 2015 with Thomas Charabas to referee. The Russians qualified with a win over Baia Mare of Romania last weekend.

Calvisano of Italy will also be making their debut in the Challenge Cup after beating Rovigo last weekend at Peroni Stadium in Calvisano.

There is a further change this season with automatic promotion and relegation between the Champions Cup and the Challenge, bottom dropping and top rising.

The finals will both be played at the Grand Stade de Lyon, the Challenge Cup[ on 13 May 2016 and the Champions Cup the following day.

The appointments are made by the EPCR referees' selection committee under the chairmanship of Donal Courtney.

Of the referees appointed, ten have been at the World Cup – Nigel Owens, Jérôme Garcès, JP Doyle, John Lacey, George Clancy, Pascal Gauzère and Romain Poite as referees and Mathieu Raynal, Leighton Hodges and Marius Mitrea as assistant referees.

Nigel Owens has been appointed to referee the Champions titleholders Toulon in their first match against Bath at Stade Félix Mayol on Sunday, 15 November 2015. It will be his 86th match in Europe's top club competition.
