Although his team got back to winning ways, scoring four tries in a 33-15 victory at Newlands, Dobson admitted that he was frustrated by their dysfunctional line-out and the scrum calls from referee Jaco van Heerden.
The Province coach described the line-out as the worst it has been all year and revealed that he will be asking some questions of the interpretations from the referee at scrum-time.
"I thought we played some good rugby but I was very frustrated. Our line-out was the poorest it has been all year, and then I couldn't explain what was going on at scrum-time, that was a mystery to me.
"The scrum penalties are something we are going to have a long look at, and probably write an email or two about.
"It is intriguing when you have got two Springbok squad members who are clearly dominant in a scrum getting penalised the whole time, so that is something we are going to take up," he said.
Although their line-out woes continue, Dobson was encouraged by his team's maul superiority and improved defence as they kept Griquas tryless.
"We let ourselves down at the line-out and give them credit they contested very well. Our maul was very good and I don't think we got the return on the maul that we probably deserved.
"The other thing I was heartened by was our defence, we have been under pressure defensively for a while and we didn't concede a try. Even at the end when they came with absolutely everything we made our tackles and got some dominance and turned over some ball," he said.
With captain Nizaam Carr in doubt for the clash with the Sharks at Kings Park next week after pulling a hamstring, Dobson admitted that he has a difficult decision to make at flyhalf with Kurt Coleman, Rob du Preez and Dillyn Leyds all potential candidates for the No.10 jersey.
"It is tricky to leave Dillyn Leyds out the team again I think, the flyhalf issue is one that we are going to have to think long and hard about because sometimes it is as clear as mud.
"Flyhalf is a dilemma, I think we have to take a longer term view on the flyhalf thing and what is in the best interests of Western Province.
"It is hard to jusge Rob [du Preez] on 12 minutes, but it is probably because Kurt [Coleman] was getting some rhythm that we didn't do it earlier.
"I think a problem in our rugby is that we haven't asked enough questions in that channel and I think Dillyn could help that. It depends on the fit of the team and it is something we have got to try and play with," he added.
