Erasmus reveals Springbok injury concern
INJURY UPDATE: Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and Ox Nché are in a race against time to recover from ‘niggles’ to face the All Blacks at 10bet Ellis Park on Saturday.
If the pair can get through the training session on Monday, they could be good to go for the opening match of the Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks.
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus told the media on Monday that Kolisi and Nché, who are doubtful, are the only two players struggling with niggles, but they will be closely monitored to see if they are ready for the clash.
Kolisi injured his hamstring against Argentina and was forced off after 20 minutes while Nché hasn’t had another minute on the field since injuring his knee against England earlier this year.
The duo are vital cogs in South Africa’s cause in the series and playing the opening match without them could be a massive blow.
“The only two doubtful players are Siya and Ox,” Erasmus said.
“Sous (Franco Mostert) is looking and doing good. I wouldn’t say Siya and Ox are still injured; it’s just niggles. And if they get through today (Monday), they might be good for us. Apart from that, there are no others.”
Erasmus also said they did not want to name their team on Monday out of respect for the All Blacks.
