McCaw 'put on ice'
All Black captain Richie McCaw was put on ice, literally, as his team continue to take in the sights and sounds of Chicago.
New Zealand will face the United States at Chicago's historic Soldier Field stadium in a Rugby Union international on Saturday.
In the build-up to that historic encounter, the All Blacks have been playing Tommy Tourist.
McCaw took to the ice in a mid-game show at the National Hockey League game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Anaheim Ducks, as one of four contestants taking part in the traditional 'Shoot the Puck' segment – which takes place between periods.
While McCaw didn't look too uncomfortable taking shots from centre ice, wearing a personalised Blackhawks jersey, he admitted to be short on ice hockey skills.
"This is my first one," he said of watching an ice hockey match live, adding: "I watched a bit on TV back home.
"However, to see it live, to see the quickness of what they do is pretty amazing. Just to get out on that ice, from that point of view is pretty cool too."
Rugby fans will be pleased to know that there were no embarrassing incidents, with McCaw correctly introduced as the All Black captain.
However, this is one sport where he was not quite on par with the competition.
"I'm not very good, really," McCaw said, adding: "I hit the board twice, but there wasn't much skill in that, but just to get out there was pretty cool."
Other All Blacks in attendance included Cory Jane, Dan Carter, Julian Savea, Sam Whitelock, TJ Perenara, Victor Vito and Wyatt Crockett.
Asked in a televised interview what it meant to be playing in Chicago, McCaw said: "Chicago is a pretty cool town to sell out 60,000 tickets in, especially where they don't know much about rugby. It's pretty awesome."
