New chairman for Auckland

Former Test referee, Glenn Wahlstrom has been elected chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union in succession to Ken Baguley.

Wahlstrom has been on the Auckland board since 2003 when he ended a notably successful refereeing career.

He joined Auckland Rugby’s Referees’ Association in 1977 followed by 26 years of active service. His refereeing career included 127 first-class games and six Test matches and was appointed to the NZRU Referee selection panel in 2005, becoming Chairman of that panel in 2006.

Wahlstrom, a successful businessman as the General Manager at Sealy New Zealand Ltd, is the second refereeing man to get a top position in rugby after Lyndon Bray who will be running SANZAR.
